Former prime minister Ahmed Shafik attended today's graduation of the Egyptian Air Force Academy class, seated beside General Sami Anan, chief of staff of the Egyptian armed forces. Prime Minsiter Essam Sharaf did not attend the graduation.
Shafik was commander of Egyptian Air Force from 1996 to 2002 before becoming minister of aviation until 2011. He was appointed as prime minister on 29 Janaury, 2011 by former president Mubarak. Shafik continued in his post after the ousting of Mubarak until 9 March, when he was forced to resign facing huge criticism from protesters and opposition.
Today was the first official public appearance for Ahmed Shafik since stepping down from the prime minister position. Despite not announcing that he would run for presidency, the former prime minister’s name is the among the potential presidential candidates in Egypt.
