Arab Idol winner, Palestinian Mohamed Assaf — who is goodwill ambassador for peace for the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA) — has released a video with the organisation calling for the siege on Gaza to be lifted.

"To decision makers and people of the world," he says in the short video that has more than 8,000 hits on YouTube, "join the #Freedom4Gaza campaign on the UNRWA social media pages."

The video is released to coincide with the Gaza Aid Conference taking place in Cairo, aimed at raising billions of dollars to help rebuild the devastated Gaza Strip.

This is not the first time Assaf has participated in politics in relation to the Gaza blockade. During the most recent Israeli offensive on Gaza, in July, the singer released a song entitled 'Raise Your Head High' which gathered over 1.5 million hits on YouTube.

'Raise Your Head High' is sung by Assaf to the lyrics of Hend Gouda, with video directed by Sameh El-Madhoun.
