A number of Egyptian journalists are planning a protest outside the Cairo press syndicate building on Sunday to condemn the recent arson attack by Israeli settlers on a Palestinian home in the occupied West Bank.

“The Zionists are committing massacres against the Palestinian people almost daily. The last was barbarically burning a Palestinian toddler alive,” the organisers wrote on their Facebook event.

A Palestinian toddler was killed and three of his family members seriously injured on Friday after Israeli settlers attacked his house with Molotov cocktails, causing a global outcry. 

Hossam El-Seweify, the general coordinator for the Hussieny Abu Daif Committee to Defend Journalism, one of the groups organising the protest, told Ahram Online that participants are planning to burn the Israeli flag during the event.

"This is what we can do right now to disapprove of the massacres being committed,” said El-Seweify, a journalist at Al-Fajr weekly.

The syndicate has not officially announced whether it will participate in the stand in front of its headquarters.

Egypt's foreign affairs ministry has condemned the attack in the West Bank and in a statement called on the Israeli authorities to acknowledge their “legal and humanitarian responsibility as an occupation authority and to provide security and safety to the Palestinian people.”

UN chief Ban Ki-moon also condemned the killing of 18-month-old Ali Saad Dawabsha as a “terrorist act.”
