Some 100 locals of the village of Talat in the governorate of Fayoum (80 km South of Cairo) protested the murder of Mohamed Mahmoud, who they insist was bludgeoned to death by a policemen at the Ebashoy Police Station. The protesters congregated at Sawaky Square to voice their anger.
They ore photos of Mahmoud and posters with the slogan “Ministry of Interior, why are you silent? Did Mohamed deserve to die?” They also chanted slogans against Minister of Interior Mansour El-Eissawy and the head of the Fayoum security, demanding that officials responsible for Mahmoud’s death should be put on trial.
For their part police sources claim that Mahmoud sped through a security checkpoint on his motorbike and when he crashed into a wall, leading to his death.
