About 2000 protesters have staged a demonstration behind Luxor Temple, in solidarity with the ongoing mass protest, dubbed the ‘Persistence Friday’ in Tahrir Square.

Like the rest of the protests across Egypt, the demonstrators in Luxor are calling for Egyptian authorities to speed up the legal proceedings against deposed regime figures, including ousted president Hosni Mubarak, and for public trials.

Among the common demands is maintaining security on the Egyptian streets by reshuffling the interior ministry and getting rid of “corrupt police leaders,” whom the protesters accuse of instigating acts of thuggery.

It has been reported that Luxor youth handed out printed invitations for the rally and also used graffiti to incite people to join in the protesters.
