The Suez prosecutor general has ordered the re-arrest of the chief of Suez police, Mohamed Adel, accused of killing peaceful demonstrators and who was released days earlier. The prosecution has also ordered the arrest of two Suez secret police.
Lawyer Ayman Nabil said that the order came after new complaints were filed against several police officers allegedly involved in the killing of demonstrators during Egypt’s revolution. The complaints include new names to be added to the list of officers already accused.
The officers accused of killing demonstrators in Suez were released days earlier on bail. The decision to allow bail for the officers outraged many of the martyrs’ families who have been protesting the decision ever since by occupying Suez’s main central square, Arbaen. This latest release of police was what broke the camel's back and has sparked protests, Egypt-wide.
