Cairotronica is a symposium of electronic and new media arts that will feature 13 days of activities, exhibitions, talks, workshops and screenings by over 50 local, regional, international artists, academics and technology experts.
The first iteration of what is planned to be a biennial event, Cairotronica aims to act as a platform, catalyst and incubator.
Under the theme of ‘Connect,’ Cairotronica offers a space to connect disciplines, people, artists, designers, ideas and nations.
The gathering aims inspire, educate, and challenge students and audiences to exchange ideas, products and services as it brings people from different fields together to share, discuss, learn, talk, and work.
“The past will connect with the future, history will connect with the present, art will connect with technology and new media, tradition will connect with modernity, and Cairo will connect with the world,” Cairotonica website states.
The two week programme includes an exhibition from 3 to 9 May featuring works displayed at the Palace of Arts, public art, live performances and video arts screenings of experimental film and animation.
A three day conference, held from 5 to 7 May, will bring academics and artists from around the world to discuss Art and Consciousness in the Post-Biological Era, part of AUC’s The Consciousness Reframed series and held in cooperation with the Planetary Collegium, Plymouth University, UK.
A curated set of film screenings, performances and workshops will be distributed throughout the two weeks until 17 May, while a number of workshops on digital media will be led by local and international artists.
The first week of Cairotronica will feature performances by Dennis Doty, Craig Dongoski, Seth Riskin, as well as a talk by Goncalo F. Cradoso (Portugal) and Ruben Pater (Netherlands), and short films from 2014's IMPAKT festival
