Based on a folkloric tale with the best known written version by French author Charles Perrault, Cinderella will be performed in a ballet form in Cairo on 26 and 27 May and Alexandria on 2 and 3 June. The Cairo Opera Orchestra will be conducted by David Crescenzi.

The ballet's music is composed by Russian composer Sergei Prokofiev (1891–1953), and based on choreography by Frederic Ashton.

The Egyptian performances include some modifications in both, thematic details and choreography, implemented by the ballet's former director, the late Abdel-Moneim Kamel and revived on the stage by the company's artistic director, Erminia Kamel.

Abdel-Moneim Kamel created a fusion of the characters of Cinderella's father and the magician (or a fairy godmother as some versions of the story indicate), a procedure that carries an element of human redemption. The father who fails to protect his daughter from the vicious stepmother and stepsisters makes it up to her as a magician, a character at the core of Cinderella's final happiness.

Cinderella premiered in Egypt at the beginning of 2000s and after a long hiatus, it returned to the Cairo's stages last year, in February 2015.

Programme:
26 and 27 May, 8pm
Cairo Opera House, main hall, Cairo
2 and 3 June, 8pm
