Egyptian President Abdel-Fattah El-Sisi issued a decree on Saturday in his capacity as the commander-in-chief of the armed forces, appointing new commanders for Air Defense Forces and Navy Forces, state news agency MENA reported.

General Ali Mohamed Fahmy, 56, the Chief of Staff of Air Defense Forces, has been named Commander of Air Defense Forces, replacing Lieutenant-General Abdel-Moneim Ibrahim Bayoumy Altras.

Altras was appointed presidential advisor for military affairs.

General Ahmed Khaled Hassan, 57, Chief of Staff of Naval Forces, has also been named Commander of Naval Forces, replacing Lieutenant-General Osama Mounir Mohamed Rabie.

Rabie was appointed the deputy head of the Suez Canal Authority, which operates the Egyptian strategic shipping route between Europe and Asia.

Rabie assumes his new post as of Sunday, MENA said.
