Paris has invited Egypt to attend the upcoming Africa-France Summit in Mali, which starts on 13 January, according to a statement on Monday from Egypt's Foreign Ministry spokesman Ahmed Abu Zeid.

The invitation came as Egypt's Foreign Minister Sameh Shoukry received the French Minister of Development and Francophone Jean-Marie Le Guen on a visit to Cairo.

The meeting focused on bilateral relations, as well as cooperation on fighting terrorist organizations, and Egypt's views on regional developments in Syria, Iraq, Yemen and Libya.

During the meeting Shoukry encouraged the French to increase their investments in Egypt, highlighting the role of Paris in supporting the country's democratic process, said the ministry spokesman.

The 27th Africa-France Summit is due to take place in Mali's capital Bamako from 13 to 14 January 2017, with discussions centred around relations between France and African nations.
