Social and cultural enterprise Mahatat for Contemporary Arts is organising a storytelling tour titled “Tales’ Nights”, which will be held in several Egyptian cities between 10 and 15 June.
The Tales’ Nights tour is organised as part of the Art of Transit project, which is part of the Access to Art/Shababeek program, supported by the Drosos Foundation.
The tour will include storytelling accompanied by music performances and light design, offering a contemporary narration of the Kalila wa Dimna stories.
Kalila wa Dimna is among the oldest and most prominent works of Arabic literature.
Kalila and Dimna are the two main characters in the story, two jackals whose captivating adventures always hold a deeper meaning. Through these performances, the Art of Transit project aims not only to entertain the audience, but also share the wisdom and moral behind the stories.
Participating artists include writer Hossam Hilaly, storytellers Ahmed Shokry and Naglaa Younes -who also plays the violin; and light designer Omar Madkour.
The tour will pass through Ezbet Khairallah in Old Cairo on 10 June, Ismailia on 11 June, Port Said on 12 June, Damietta on 13 June, Mansoura on 14 June, and Abu Mangoug-Behira on 15 June. All performances will start around 9:30pm and last for one hour.
Since its foundation in 2011, Mahatat for Contemporary Art has aimed to decentralise art in Egypt and organise artistic events in different public spaces.
