Egypt missed out on a spot in the Olympic qualification tournament after losing to Spain 36-31 in their seventh-place playoff at the World Championship in Denmark on Saturday.

The Pharaohs led 18-17 at halftime but produced a poor show in the second half, wasting many easy chances and fast breaks.

Spain made the most of Egypt's too many mistakes to open up a comfortable lead in the latter stages, with their opponents giving up.

Egypt still finished eighth for their best place at the World Championship since finishing fourth at the 2001 edition in France.

They won three, drew twice and lost four games at the current edition.
