Two Egyptian university students drowned in Russia's Volga River during a picnic with friends, Sputnik News Agency reported.
According to a press statement issued Monday by Ulyanovsk City Municipality, the two Egyptian nationals, reported to be in their early twenties, had earlier arrived in Ulyanovsk City to study at a Russian university.
The statement quoted eyewitnesses as saying that the two young men were picnicking with friends near the wharf on the bank of the river when they fell off a cement bridge to be immediately swallowed by the water in an area where swimming is banned.
Rescue teams rushed to the site but their efforts to save them were to no avail and divers were able to fish their bodies out of the water later on
