Two short films by Egyptian filmmakers will take part in the upcoming 4th edition of the Africa International Film Festival, taking place between 13 and 20 November in Lagos, Nigeria.

Both films – Intense Practice To Improve Performance and Doors Of Mercy – are featured in the festival’s Short Films (Fiction & Documentary) out-of-competition segment, which includes a total of 50 films from many African countries.

Intense Practice to Improve Performance (2018) is an 18-minute short comedy drama written and directed by Yasser Shafiey. The film was nominated for the Youssef Chahin Award for Best Short Film in the Cinema Of Tomorrow International Competition at the Cairo International Film Festival (2018).

Directed and co-written (together with Anna Kriege) by Abdallah El-Daly, Doors Of Mercy (2018) is a 14-minute-long drama telling the story of an Egyptian woman who tries to obtain a birth certificate for her out-of-wedlock baby, discovering the hardships of living as an outcast in a traditional society.

The other non-competitive segments of the festival are Documentary, Feature Film and Animation.

The competitive segments are Feature Film, Documentary, Shorts, Students’ Shorts and Animation.
