Two consecutive concerts will feature Egyptian musicians Abdallah Abozekry and Ali Baghdady on 18 November at the stage of Citeì internationale des arts, Paris' International Arts City.
Abozekry will start his concert at 7.30pm, followed by Baghdady at 8.15pm.
Musician in residence at the Cité, Baghdady is an Egyptian singer-songwriter and multi-instrumentalist. The Citeì presents his work as one aiming to bridge the gap between East and West, the past and the present, local and global, material and spiritual. He incorporates multiple Arabic influences and hip-hop or trap music rhythms into his repertoire, enveloping everything with jazzy harmonies.
Chosen by the Cité internationale des arts Music Committee, Abozekry will present his musical project Zamakan (Arabic portmanteau of words time "Zaman" and space "Makan"), in which Abozekry plays on saz and is joined by Baptiste Ferrandis (guitar), Mark Priore (synthesisers) and Paul Berne (drums).
According to Cité's website, Zamakan is a sound experimentation that combines diverse musical styles from the East and West in search of a new sound. The result is a semi-electronic aesthetic -- oriental groove, topped with jazz, rock and electronic music -- in a journey of improvisation that joins tradition with modernity.
Founded in 1965, the Cité internationale des arts welcomes and supports French and international artists through offering them artist-in-residence programmes, while encouraging and facilitating their creative meetings. Opening doors to the public and professionals, the exchange is always accompanied by the presentation of the artists' work, for instance, music concerts. The Cité encourages cross-cultural dialogue and provides a place where artists can meet with their public and other professionals.
The Cité website reported that "every month, in partnership with 135 French and international organisations, the Cité sites welcome more than 300 artists from a wide range of disciplines for residencies lasting up to one year."
