The Cairo International Film Festival’s (CIFF) 41st edition, dedicated to late Egyptian film critic and historian Youssef Cherif Rizkallah, will organise a tribute night for him on Saturday at Hanager Theatre at the Cairo Opera House.

The event will see the screening of 'Rizk El-Cinema', a documentary about the late critic, who passed away on 12 July 2019, directed by Egyptian director and producer Abdel-Rahman Nasr and produced by the CIFF.

The event, which starts at 6:30pm, is expected to be attended by many well-known Egyptian experts and filmmakers to pay tribute to Rizkallah, after whom the 41st edition of the CIFF is named.

The legendary veteran, who had served the festival since 1987 and became its artistic director in 2000, is being honoured through many activities at the festival, which is being held from 20 to 29 November.

He was also honoured at the opening ceremony on Wednesday with actor Khaled El-Sawy.

Despite his death, Rizkallah is officially the artistic director of the 41st edition along with Egyptian critic Ahmed Shawky, who is the acting artistic director working under the title of deputy artistic director as a sign of gratitude.

Rizkallah, who was also honoured during the 40th edition, was an iconic critic who helped make Hollywood movie reviews popular in the Middle East by presenting and producing a number of important TV shows since the 1960s, including Oscar and Tele-Cinema.

The well-known journalist, who wrote thousands of movie reviews for Egyptian and Arab newspapers, magazines, radio stations, and TV shows, participated in many film festivals around the world.
