The Egyptian and French air forces have carried out air defence drills across the Red Sea and the Mediterranean, the Egyptian military spokesman said on Tuesday.

The training saw the presence of the French aircraft carrier, Charles de Gaulle, in the Mediterranean, and the participation of a number of Rafale and Egyptian F-16 aircraft.

During the drills in the Red Sea, the Egyptian and French sides conducted search and rescue operations inside and outside Egyptian waters, were trained on defending and attacking a vital marine target, executed a re-fueling exercise in the air, and were trained on attacking marine elements.

The exercise aims at exchanging expertise in a manner that supports efforts to achieve regional stability and security in the framework of the general command plan of the armed forces to strengthen and support military cooperation relations with friendly and brotherly countries.

Egyptian and French naval forces on Monday carried out a military drill in the Mediterranean, with the participation of Egypt's Borollos and France's Capricorne mine hunters.
