Egypt's health ministry has reported 248 new coronavirus cases on Monday, a new daily record since the initial discovery of the virus in the country in mid-February, bringing the total number of infections to 4,782 nationwide.
Monday’s number was 16 cases higher than the previous highest single-day rise reported on Friday.
Twenty fatalities were also recorded on Monday, bringing the country’s death toll from COVID-19 to 337.
Ministry spokesman Khaled Megahed said that 60 Egyptians fully recovered and left isolation hospitals today, which brings the total number of recoveries to 1,236.
The number of patients who have rested negative, including the full recoveries, has now reached 1,602.
The newly-discovered cases were detected through the ministry’s investigation and contact tracing protocols, Megahed added.
