Egypt’s Minister of Irrigation Mohamed Abdel-Atti said on Friday that Egypt, Sudan and Ethiopia haven't yet reached agreement on the legal framework of the Grand Ethiopian Renaissance Dam (GERD) after a new round of talks had begun.

Abdel-Atti told El-Hekaya TV show, aired on MBC Misr, that nor did Egypt and Ethiopia agree on filling the dam's reservoir during drought and prolonged drought, which is a fundamental point of difference between the two countries.

He added Sudan was concerned about the safety measures and precautions adopted at the dam. "Sudan is concerned about the safety of the dam and how it will impact its dams,” the Egyptian minister said.

“Ethiopia has not presented the documents concerning the safety measures and precautions taken during the construction of the dam,” he added.

On Friday night, the Egyptian irrigation ministry issued a statement saying that despite the resumption of talks, the parties did not reach agreement on  the key technical and legal points.

Talks between Egypt, Ethiopia and Sudan will continue on a daily basis, according to Abdel-Atti, under the auspices of the African Union and in the attendance of 11 observers from the EU, United States, AU Commission, and legal and technical experts.

The talks will continue on Saturday afternoon via video conference.
