Egypt has dispatched a military plane loaded with a third shipment of aid to Sudan, the country's military spokesman said in a video statement, in the wake of major flooding in the country.

The shipment, which includes both medical supplies and food, was prepared in coordination with a number of Egyptian organisations and institutions.

The plane left Egypt on Thursday, heading for Khartoum.

According to the statement, Sudan has expressed its deep gratitude for the Egyptian efforts to support the country during this difficult time.

Sudan was hit by heavy rains and floods this week, destroying houses and displacing many people.

At least 63 people have been killed by seasonal storms since July, while over 14,000 homes and 119 public buildings have been destroyed.
