Dutch airline KLM will temporarily resume biweekly flights from Amsterdam to Cairo starting Wednesday after more than three years of suspension.

KLM had said in August that it would temporarily resume flights to Cairo for the months of September and October.

According to a KLM statement last month, the flights will be operated using Boeing 777-200ER planes.

"We will assess whether Cairo can also be added to KLM's network of destinations during the winter season," KLM said.

In September 2016, the Dutch airline announced that it would suspend its services to Cairo from January 2017 for financial reasons.

It said that the devaluation of the Egyptian pound and the decision of the Central Bank of Egypt to put restrictions on the transfer of foreign currency out of Egypt had had a negative impact on the airline.

Although it halted passenger flights, it did continue cargo flights between the Netherlands and Egypt.
