Ahly coach Pitso Mosimane believes his team have a lot of work to do before the final of the Champions League despite beating Wydad Casablanca 3-1 on Friday in the return leg of the competition's semi-final in Cairo.

"We had an overall good performance but we played better in the first leg than in Egypt," the South African tactician said after the game.

The Red Devils beat Wydad 2-0 in Casablanca last Saturday to put one foot in the final and completed an easy task in Cairo for a 5-1 aggregate win.

"We haven't reached the performance I want from the players, even concerning our passing game. We still have a lot of work to do, we will turn Wydad's page and start preparing for the final," he added.

Mosimane, who took charge of Ahly on 2 October, led the team to a record-extending 13th final and shoulders the burden of delivering their ninth trophy and their first since 2013.

"Ahly have reached the final several times over the past seven years but they weren't lucky. I hope this time God will help us," he concluded.

It's Ahly's third final in four years after they lost to Wydad in 2017 and Esperance of Tunisia in 2018. They are expected to meet Zamalek in the 6 November final as their perennial Cairo rivals defeated Raja 1-0 away in the first leg of the other semifinal.
