An Ismailia court ordered on Saturday the release of a young man who was detained on charges of contempt of religion after a text conversation - showing him insulting Prophet Muhammad - went viral on social media.

The court also ordered the release of Youssef Hany, who was arrested on Friday, after he apologized in front of the court and stressed his respect to religion and the Prophet.

It also ordered the release of woman in the same case after she was detained for insulting Christianity during her exchange in texts with Hany.

This comes days after Egypt’s general prosecutor ordered an urgent investigation into a text conversation circulating on social media of a person insulting Prophet Muhammad after several lawyers filed complaints against the young man.
