Egypt reported 748 new coronavirus cases and 52 deaths on Friday, the country's health ministry said in a statement.

The total infection tally reached 160,463, while the death toll hit 8,853 since the outbreak began domestically in mid-February.

The statement added that 432 patients have been discharged after recovering from the virus, bringing the total number of recoveries to 125,603.

Egypt's daily coronavirus infection tolls, registered by the health ministry, have been on the decline since 9 January.

According to the ministry's count, a total of 5,974 positive cases were detected over the third week of January, compared to 6,932 cases recorded in the second week and 7,447 cases recorded in the first week.

Egypt entered the second wave of the pandemic in the last week of December as it began recording over 1000 cases daily once again after five months noticeably marked with lower daily tolls.
