Egypt's health ministry reported 600 new coronavirus cases on Saturday, bringing the total infection tally to 173,202 since the outbreak began domestically mid-February 2020.
The ministry reported 36 new deaths over the past 24 hours, bringing the total number of deaths from the virus to 9,935.
In its statement the ministry added that 423 patients were discharged on Saturday after recovering from the virus, bringing the total number of recoveries to 134,638.
Though Egypt entered the second wave of coronavirus in early December, the country witnessed a decline in the daily infection rate in January before fluctuating up and down since last week.
Egypt’s Minister of Health Hala Zayed stated last Thursday that the number of coronavirus infections in Egypt “is expected to increase by April” but the curve would decline in May.
