As Usual? will be performed within the framework of Dancing Egyptian Spring, a contemporary dance festival in public spaces in Alexandria and Port Said.
The performance will utilise the space of Alexandria's Goethe Institute. The old villa of the institute became an inspiration for the director Mirette Mechail who comments, "it is the free space of this magnificent building that makes this performance unique. The place is very mysterious and inspiring. We try to give a different life to its spaces, to suggest that it can be filled with family and people."
Repetitive notions that exist within family units are explored as reflected in the performance's title As Usual?
Directed by Mechail, the dancers are Amr Hosni, Hanaa Safwat, Mohammed Ali, Mohammed Fouad, Ayman Asfour and Mirette Mechail herself. The costume designer is Nashwa Maatouk.
The Dancing Egyptian Spring festival seeks to explore dance, but also arts in public space and changing cultural dimensions in Egypt in the wake of the January 25 Revolution. It is a collaboration project between Goethe-Institut Alexandria, Institut Francais d’Égypte à Alexandrie, Rezodanse and Agora in cooperation with the Alliance Francaise Port Said.
