President of Nile University (NU) Tarek Khalil resigns in protest of the violent attack by Egypt's Central Security forces on a peaceful students' sit in on Monday, says NU's spokesman Mohamed Sultan.

Disgraceful

Professor Dr. Tarek Khalil's resignation from the presidency of Nile University (NY) is a reflection of the disorderly state of the country as a whole. Unfortunately, the issue is not that of academe, rather a politicized one of turf. Nile University is one of the brightest beacons Egypt has boasted in recent years. It is sad that Professor Dr. Zewail does not see the value of two higher institutions of learning and research cooperating in fields which are bound to result in technological advances which the country is badly in need of at its critical stage in its history. I add my voice to my friend and colleague Dr. Khalil in his protest. Professor Dr. Saba E. Demian
