US President Barack Obama, up for reelection in US presidential elections Tuesday, congratulates all Copts and Egyptians on the seating of the 118th Coptic Pope Tawadros

US President Barack Obama congratulated all Coptic Christians and all Egyptians late Sunday, the same day the new Coptic Pope, Bishop Tawadros, was chosen as the Patriarch of the Holy See of Alexandria and all of Africa.

White House spokesman, James Carney in a press release Sunday wished the new pope success in his new position as the leader of the largest Christian community in the Middle East at a time in which the region is experiencing major significant changes.

He further stressed the US dedication to its support towards religious freedom and mutual respect amongst religions.

The American people, he added, will continue to stand by Egyptians of all walks of life as it strives to reach the goals of the January 25 Revolution; most importantly, freedom, dignity and social justice.

Barack Obama is set to face off with his Republican rival Mitt Romney Tuesday in the start of the US presidential elections.
