Members of the Constituent Assembly, led by Judge Hossam El-Gheriany, have arrived at the Cairo Conference Hall in Heliopolis suburb of Cairo to present President Mohamed Morsi with the draft constitution which was finalised Friday.  

President Morsi is expected to address the nation shortly and many observers believe he will call for a national referendum on the final draft in two weeks.

The draft constitution, which was finalised following a 15 hour-long voting process by 85 members from the 100 member beleaguered assembly, is expected to be ratified by Morsi. 

The assembly could not master its full strength to vote on the final draft as many liberal and leftist members resigned over the past months.

This comes as million-man rally takes place in Giza, in front of Cairo University, named the ‘Day of legitimacy and Sharia’ where Muslim Brotherhood supporters and Salafists have come to support the president since the early morning hours.

Similar pro-Morsi protests are taking place in main cities such as Alexandria and Assiut.

Counter protests and a sit-in are taking place in the flashpoint Tahrir Square by opposition forces to dennounce the "illegitimacy" of the draft constitution and to oppose the recent constitutional declaration which immunes the assembly from dissolution by court orders.

Tens of thousands of anti-Morsi protesters have claimed over the past few days the draft restricts freedom of speech, minorities’ rights, and places other limitations on freedoms.
