The Preachers' Syndicate announced Monday that should the judges continue to strike its members would step in and supervise Egypt's upcoming constitutional referendum, set to take place on 15 December.
"We volunteer to work for God and for the sake of our precious nation as well as to protect its stability," the public statement read. "The preachers and imams, the keepers of the Holy Quran, have won the people's trust and have the ability, efficiency and patriotism to deal with this historical responsibility."
Their statement comes after the Judges' Club announced that its members would not man the polling stations for next week's constitutional referendum.
Representatives of the Preachers' Syndicate attended the Muslim Brotherhood organised rallies at Cairo University on Saturday to show their support for President Mohamed Morsi, his Constitutional Declaration and his decision to put the draft constitution to referendum.
In addition, the syndicate held a solidarity conference last Thursday at El-Fatah mosque in Cairo's Ramsis Square, which was attended by many preachers from across Egypt's governorates.
There are currently 55,000 preachers and Imams officially registered with the Ministry of Religious Endowments in Egypt.
