Death toll from presidential palace clashes hits 8: Health ministry

Mohamed Salem, 41, succumbed to injuries sustained in last week's violent clashes, raising overall death toll to eight, health ministry spokesman announces Sunday

The death toll from last Wednesday's clashes outside the presidential palace in Cairo has risen to eight after another person succumbed to injuries, health ministry spokesman Ahmed Omar announced Sunday evening.

Mohamed Said Ahmed Salem, 41, who had suffered injuries to the head during the clashes, passed away on Saturday night at Heliopolis Hospital after spending two days in a coma.

Along with the deaths, more than 350 people were injured in violent confrontations between supporters and opponents of President Mohamed Morsi outside the presidential palace, including at least two protesters who have since been pronounced clinically dead.
