Activists in the Ismailia Revolutionary Bloc blocked a railway track in Ismailia to protest a visit to the Suez Canal by President Mohamed Morsi on Thursday afternoon
Protesters laid down on the tracks and stopped a train on its way to Zagazig in the Delta from Port Said on the Suez Canal.
The group also stopped a bus carrying a military band, which was on its way to play at a reception for the president, and tore down banners and posters put up to welcome him.
Activists were unable to reach the reception site due to a heavy security presence.
President Morsi inaugurated the Maritime Training Centre in Ismailia earlier in the day.
The Ismailia Revolutionary Bloc who organised the action consists of several activist groups including April 6 Youth Movement, Kefaya Movement, the Revolution Youth Union among others.
April 6 Youth Movememnt had called on their official Facebook page Wednesday on its members and supporters to meet in Al-Mamar Square at half-past eight in the morning to "give Morsi a deserved welcome."
April 6 also plans to present a show of "Ikhwan Kazeboon," which is a short documentary criticising the performance of the Muslim Brotherhood and its political wing the Freedom and Justice Party in power.
