A pedestrian has been killed by gunshots in Tahrir in the midst of ongoing clashes between the police and the protesters.
Samir Ashraf Samir, 19, an employee at Nile City towers, was killed in Tahrir on Monday at two in the morning after receiving a gunshot in his neck that ended his life.
Mohamed Azab, Samir's relative, told Al-Ahram Arabic news website that the deceased was on his way home when he suffered from smoke inhalation of tear gas fired by the police at Abd El-Moneim Riad Square near Tahrir and sat down to rest.
After about 15 minutes, Samir was shot dead, Azab said.
He also said that Samir, who lives in Shubra Al-Khaima Cairo district, did not take part in the protests.
He will be buried in his family's home town Qlayub in Qalubiya governorate on the Nile Delta.
Clashes are still ongoing for the fourth day in Tahrir between protesting groups and police forces who are firing heavy tear gas in the square in an effort to push back the protesters.
Another person died in Qasr El-Aini Hospital on Saturday after receiving a bird-shot bullet to the chest.
Violence broke out in the square when a number of protesters attempted to bring down the stone wall in Qasr El-Aini street on the eve of the second anniversary of the 25 January revolution.
Tens of protesters have been killed in Port Said, Ismailia and Suez in clashes with the police in the past 72 hours.
