Saad El-Katatni, head of the Muslim Brotherhood's Freedom and Justice Party (FJP), said he hopes the liberal Free Egyptians Party will up its cooperation with different political forces under newly elected party president Ahmed Saied.

El-Katatni's statement came as he congratulated Saied on his election Friday.

"We hope the Free Egyptians will see a new phase of constructive cooperation with different political forces in order to continue [fulfilling] the demands of the [2011] revolution, and building state institutions," he said.

The Free Egyptians Party was established by Coptic telecommunications tycoon Naguib Sawiris shortly after the revolution. It is considered to be one of the more prominent opposition parties.

Many Egyptian Copts support the Free Egyptians Party, which has always stood against Islamist parties, including the FJP.
