Members of the culture committee of Egypt's Shura Council discussed their concerns on Monday about the possibility of Iranian tourism to Egypt, with some expressing fears that it could spread Shiism in the country.

According to Ahram's Arabic news website, members of the committee called on Tourism Minister Hesham Zaazou to discuss the issue in the council, the country's upper house of parliament which is holding legislative powers until a house of representatives is elected.

The committee, headed by Fathy Shehab El-Din of the Freedom and Justice Party (FJP), engaged in a heated argument on the effects Iranian tourists could have on Egypt.

"The Shias are more dangerous than naked [women]," MP Tharwat Attallah of the Salafist Nour Party said during the meeting.

"They are a danger to Egypt's national security; Egyptians could be deceived into [converting to] Shiism, giving it a chance to spread in Egypt," he added.

Attallah also called upon the current ruling regime to limit Egypt's relationship with Iran, as the previous regime of ousted president Hosni Mubarak had done.

Similarly, MP Abd El-Galeil El-Qassem, also of the Nour Party, said that Shiism would undermine the "essence of religion and the [Sunni] doctrine."

He said that Egypt should put restrictions on Iranian tourism in Egypt because, according to him, Iranians aim to create strife in the country.

However, MP Yehia Abo El-Hassan from the Islamist Al-Wasat Party disagreed with their concerns, saying that "the countries that cut off relations with Iran are the US and Israel." He added that tourists only come to Egypt for a limited time.

The Salafist Call and the Nour Party, its political arm, held a conference in April against the spread of the Shia doctrine in Egypt.

The Salafists and several other Islamic groups have expressed their concerns recently at potential Iranian Shia influence in the country.

Diplomatic relations between the two countries were cut following Tehran’s Islamic revolution in 1979, but relations have improved since the election of Islamist President Mohamed Morsi in 2012. Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad visited Egypt in February 2013.

In April, more than 50 Iranians – the first official group of Iranians to visit Egypt for tourism in decades – arrived in Upper Egypt amid tight security. The visit came as part of a bilateral tourism agreement signed in February.

Mob slaughter
They will exalt in their own false doctrines. Don't let your passions overcome you lest you stray from the truth. Have nothing to do with those who break up their faith into sects. A Muslim is forbidden to kill another Muslim. The faith has no priesthood. What happened to the Qur'an? Is it just a nice decoration for the the living room?

Who is dangerous, Salafi, Shia or naked woman?
Dear Ahmed M Ibrahim( allow me to call you my brother in Islam) I agree with you regarding political aspect of Shia in Islam, but all religions through history branch out it is not Islam, Christianity and also Judaism have many branches too, but today they don't go blow each other up. Salafi movement is based on thinking of Ibn Tamiyeh and Abdul Wahhab of Arabia, this movement is also a POLITICAL, but they are ultra conservative. Today you see a cutting body and eating heart, beheading a human being, destroying statue of Buddha is related with Salafi thinking. Do you see how Salafi movement causing Pakistan to bleed within, please watch YouTube and see how youth have been brain washed. Today Khameini ( whom as a Iranian born I consider a dictator) calls Sunnis his brother and tries to reach to Egyptians in order to help them. I can't change what happened 1400 years ago in Karbala, but today as a Muslim I am ashamed to see of beheading of a man and few chant Allah Akbar, or a great Statue of Buddha bombed or two young man make pressure cooker bomb and kill innocent people ion Boston, and many other places. If today majority of Egyptians don't stand up to these few Salafist, Egypt, Tunisia, Libya,... within three years or so become just like Pakistan.

No East No West, Islam is the Best !!!
There is sufficient evidence within the accepted books of Islam regarding historic events and their genuineness and clarity. It is but for all of us to read with a clear unbiased mind. Sunnis and Shias despite their politico-religious diferences have lived side by side throughout the ages - so obviously not many problems and issues there. I have yet to come across any Sunni or Shia who would desecrate the grave of anyone let alone that of the Noble Prophet's companion. This companion lay there for hundreds of years until someone with a weird, warped and twisted mind decided to humiliate this noble man and steal his noble remains. While one happily carried out this ignoble deed (practiced by the Kuffar of the old and the Zionists of today) the other decided to happily and cheerfully follow in the footsteps of that wretched, horrible and vengeful woman Hinda (who tore out and chewed the liver of Hamza the Lion of Allah). He mutilated the body of his supposed enemy and cut our his heart and repeated the sunnah of Hinda. Correct me if I am wrong but all sources of information (pro and anti Syrian regime) informed us that both these practicing, learned, Sunnah abiding pinnacle of Muslims were none other than and indeed our Salafist brothers in Islam and humanity. Welcome noble warriors, welcome defenders of the faith, welcome followers of the true Sunnah of the Noble Prophet, welcome true Shiah of the Noble Prophet - you indeed are the creme-de-la-creme of Islam and the best of humanity. All Muslims and all of humanity should be encouraged to follow your noble examples because that is the absolute and ultimate truth.

Fearful influence.
While one may not agree with the views expressed by the Nour party MP, it has to be admitted that Shiism is not a religious current but a purely political phenomenon which thrives on ignorance and half truths. The main crux of the Shiite appeal is the martyrdom of Imam Hussein which all moslems including the Sunni faction are liable to be deeply influenced and attached with. Herein lies the danger of coming into Shiite influence. How many know that the martyrdom of the third Caliph Osman Bin Affan was more tragic than the events of Karbala. How many of us know that Caliph Muawiyya and Caliph Yazid were also very close relatives of the Prophet. How many of us know that Imam Hussein ventured for Jihad in spite of the persuasion of his well wishers to the contrary. Finally how many of us know that Caliph Yazid was ready for reconciliation while Imam Hussien was adamant on Jihad. As a solution and remedy Shiite should be made to understand the Islamic history in proper perspective and persuaded to accept the harsh reality that there could be no current other than the Islam as taught and enunciated in the Holy Quran. As such there is no provision for Shiism as a religious current but surely it can proceed on political lines. Then no body need fear their influence.

Ignorancce
Ignorance is the biggest enemy. If only Muslims study the school of the ahlulbayt with an open mind n c for themselves what Shi'ism is all abt. Who goes out committing suicide bombings, chewing the hearts of fellow Muslims and putting fear in the minds and hearts of others against Islam? Aren't they the Wahabis/Salafists? How many people have the Shias killed or terrorised? Plse think carefully over this.

And who made Salafists the only "proper" religion in Egypt?
Who has made Salafists the religion of choice in Egypt? Aren't they a Saudi creation? Besides, i have not seen so many Egyptians converting to Judaism because of Israeli tourists -- nor have I heard any protests from these Saudi lackies.
