Prosecutors in Damanhur in the Nile Delta have ordered the detention of 11 people over an attack on the home of Muslim Brotherhood MP Gamal Heshmat .

The detainees, who will be held four days pending investigations, are also accused of smashing Heshmat's car along with several others during the attack on Friday.

Heshmat accused anti-Brotherhood 'Rebel' campaigners and "members of political parties" of conducting the attack with the help of "thugs."

The Freedom and Justice Party website said two activists working for the 'Rebel' campaign were among those arrested over the attack.

Dozens of protesters attacked Heshmat's home hours after clashes between supporters and opponents of the ruling Muslim Brotherhood broke out on Thursday, leaving 24 injured.

The violence reportedly erupted after Brotherhood members, wearing helmets and wielding bats, barred opposition activists from entering the local lawyers' syndicate building where Brotherhood syndicate members were convening. The two sides later pelted each other with rocks. Police fired tear gas in an attempt to break up the crowd, leaving dozens injured, including police officers.

Anti-government activists demonstrated on Friday against Thursday's incident at the lawyers' syndicate.

The original protests on Thursday were to commemorate the third anniversary of the death of Khaled Said, whose murder by police in Alexandria in 2010 helped spark the January 25 Revolution.
