The Egyptian presidency is committed to dealing “wisely" with opposition protests on 30 June, presidential advisor for political affairs Pakinam El-Sharqawi has said.
The presidency will take all necessary legal measures to prevent violence at the protests, El-Sharqawi added during an interview on state TV on Tuesday.
“I call on everyone to exercise self-control and peacefully express [their grievances],” she said.
El-Sharqawi "respects" opposition calls for early presidential elections but "can’t accept the rationale behind them."
“Isn’t it better to work together to hold parliamentary elections so we can put in place a new House of Representatives that represents all the people?” El-Sharqawi asked.
Egypt’s opposition has called for mass protests on 30 June, the anniversary of President Morsi's inauguration, to demand snap presidential polls.
The date coincides with the Rebel campaign's deadline for collecting 15 million signatures calling for President Morsi's removal, to counter the 13 million votes he won in the presidential election.
Islamist forces and sympathisers will hold pro-government rallies on Friday, 21 June.
