Toppled Egyptian president Mohamed Morsi will stand trial over allegations he collaborated with Hamas, Hezbollah and other organisations to commit terrorist acts in Egypt, judicial sources have told Ahram Online.

The deposed leader and thirty five co-defendants – including prominent members of his Muslim Brotherhood and former presidential advisers – will face trial for "collaborating with foreign organisations to commit terrorist acts in Egypt, revealing defence secrets to a foreign country, funding terrorists and military training to achieve the purposes of the international organisation of the Brotherhood," a statement by the prosecutor-general's office said on Wednesday.

Morsi is already on trial for the killing of opposition protesters outside the presidential palace in December 2012.

The statement added: Brotherhood leaders collaborated with Palestinian Islamist group Hamas, Lebanese Shia group Hezbollah and other organisations "inside and outside" Egypt to smuggle arms, organised military training for group members in the Gaza Strip, and funded a plan to stir chaos and threaten national security in Egypt.

Prosecutors also accuse the group of sponsoring terrorist attacks on army and police targets in the Sinai Peninsula, which borders Israel, following Morsi's ouster.

Nineteen defendants are already being detained and prosecutors have ordered the arrest of the seventeen others, the statement added.

Among Morsi's co-defendants are Brotherhood leader Mohamed Badie, his two deputies Khairat El-Shater and Mahmoud Ezzat, and prominent members Saad El-Katatni, Essam El-Erian and Mahmoud El-Beltagy. Former presidential aide Refaa El-Tahtawy along with his two deputies are also on trial.

The statement added that Morsi presidential aides, including Essam El-Haddad, his national security advisor, had divulged secret reports to the Brotherhood international organisation, Iranian Revolutionary Guards and Hezbollah in return for their cooperation in terrorist operations.

The charges against the defendants span the period between 2005 and 2013.

Mosi, Egypr's first democratically elected presidnt, was ousted by the army in July following massive protests against his single year in power.

The Egyptian authorities have since launched a sustained crackdown on his Islamist supporters, in which hundreds were killed in clashes with security forces and thousands others arrested.

Laughable charges
This is really laughable. We all know and the whole world knows that Mursi is innocent and that the real villains are Sisi and cohorts who murdered thousands and overthrew a democratically-elected President on Israel's behalf. No wonder, Sisi is a national hero in Israel.

More charges are deserved
What's so laughable, George Beshoy? Rather than talk about others, why not defend Morsi specifically. Do you have information to suggest he did not do the things he is accused of? In fact, Morsi should be tried for treason for trying to split the military. It was reported in several newspapers that he made calls and had other make contacts with military members to turn them against each other, and against the command. In Egypt, under the law, this is treason. It is also treason in the United States and other self-described civilized countries that the Muslim Brotherhood have sought out to intervene in Egyptian affairs on their behalf. Are you aware of the Muslim Brotherhood's history of acting as a saboteur for foreign governments? Are you aware of the Brotherhood's history with the CIA, the FBA, British intelligence? Is this a loyal organization? Does a loyal and patriotic organization try to bring an entire country down, incite violence, carry out violence, sow discord, and in

Nobody is buying your false MB claims
Everyone knows you are using a fake Christian name... So don't bother getting desperate by claiming you are a Chistian.... The only thing laughable here is how desperate you are.

This is not justice
A president, particularly in a big country like Egypt, is obliged to have contact with foreign powers. That is his duty.. It is normal that at least some of the exchange of opinions with other states are done in secret. It is also normal to maintain ties to regimes and groups that are not all democratic angels. Norway, for instance, has contact with Hamas. Most countries have diplomatic relations with the authoritarian states Iran and China. Egypt, under Mubarak, not only had contact with the USA, but ran torture centers for the Americans on Egyptian soil. That is what I call treason, yet nobody have been charged and jailed for it. On the contrary, the Mubarak people are back in power.

Egypt now run by a dictator
Long live the Egyptian dictatorship. Apparently, a coup by a general is normal there, and democratically elected presidents are overthrown by strongmen. Egypt is a basket case.

Fake names, wretched people
What a wretched collection of commentators that post on this site and use fake Christian or foreign names to hide their very obvious Muslim Brotherhood affiliation. No one is buying your childish game. Give it up and go educate yourselves about Islam. You are hypocrites better suited for the pre-Islamic period of idol worship. May Allah hold you and your so-called leaders accountable.

here we go again
Dear John. im really starting to wonder about your posts. if you know anything about egypt's security you would know bombings and murder of soldiers are not common practice. but kidnappings and murder came with the brotherhood. that my friend is called terrorism in civilised society. .... oh wait I get it. under the brotherhood there is no such thing as civilised society. there are deals being made with kidnappers fof return of border soldiers and with terrorist states for selling fuel while egyptians tough it out. buddy you need to pull your head out of your backside.
