The former head of Al-Ahram Advertising Agency has been detained pending investigation into corruption allegations.
Hassan Hamdi is the outgoing chairman of Ahly sporting club, Egypt's most prominent sports institution, and a one-time prominent Ahly football star in the 1970s.
His detention was ordered by Judge Tharwat Hamed, appointed to investigate allegations of corruption at Al-Ahram.
Hamdi, who led the agency for decades until 2013, was questioned for 16 hours on Sunday and will face further questioning on Monday.
While being questioned by the Illicit Gains Authority in February, Hamdi failed to explain how he had accumulated around LE500 million during his time as head of the agency.
Travel bans were imposed on Hamdi and three other former Al-Ahram CEOs: Ibrahim Nafae, Morsi Attallah and Abdel-Moneim El-Said.
Abdel-Moneim El-Said is currently CEO of Al-Masry Al-Youm newspaper.
Ibrahim Nafae is already abroad.
