Egypt's squad has been boosted by the return of left-back Mohamed Abdel-Shafi, who has recovered from injury ahead of the quarterfinal game against Morocco in the 2017 Africa Cup of Nations.

"Abdel-Shafi is fit for participation in the games after recovering from an ankle sprain injury," Egypt national team doctor Mohamed Aboul-Ela told reporters on Thursday.

The Ahly Jeddah defender missed the 1-0 win over Ghana in the Group D third round of the 2017 Africa Cup of Nations Wednesday, due to the sprain he sustained in the 1-0 win over Uganda in the second game of the tournament.

The Pharaohs finished on top of their group with seven points, one ahead of Ghana.

"All Egypt stars finished the Ghana game without injury," the Egypt doctor said.

Abdel-Shafi's absence forced national team coach Hector Cuper to make changes in the starting lineup for the Ghana game. The coach called Hull City's Ahmed Elmohamady to start as right-back, moving solid Ahmed Fathi to the other flank.

Egypt is set for a mouthwatering quarterfinal meeting with Morocco on Sunday, with Ghana taking on DR Congo earlier in the day.
