Egypt winger Amr Warda asked the fans to support their national team after a 2-1 defeat by Cameroon in the African Cup of Nations final on Sunday.

The Pharaohs missed out on a record-extending eighth title after throwing away a first-half lead to gift Cameroon a fifth triumph in Libreville.

"We did not win the tournament, but we did our best," a tearful Warda told beIN Sports after the game.

"I ask the Egyptian fans to support the team. We are a good generation that ensures a good future for Egyptian football."

"I am very frustrated. We came here to win the title not to top our group or to reach the final. But I repeat it again; all the players did their best."

The 23-year-old made his first start in the final, producing a convincing performance after acting as a shadow striker.
