Cameroon's rising winger Christian Bassogog has been named the best player of the 2017 Africa Cup of Nations after his side managed to come back from behind and beat Egypt 2-1 to claim their first title since 2002.
Two second-half goals from substitutes Nicolas N'Koulou and Vincent Aboubakar overturned Mohamed Elneny's 22nd-minute opener, giving the Indomitable Lions their fifth African title.
Bassogog, 22, has managed to prove that he is worthy of the best player award with some superb displays throughout the tournament.
After only making his debut in the World Cup qualifying draw with Zambia, a match where he featured for 81 minutes, Bassogog proved a key player for Cameroon in the Nations Cup, starting all games in the tournament.
With his blistering pace and dribbling skills, the Denmark-based man gave opponents a hard time down the flank, with Egypt veteran full-back Ahmed Fathi handed the mission to stop him.
Despite scoring just a single Nations Cup goal, a sliding strike following a last-minute counter-attack against Ghana in the semis, Bassogog managed to clinch the best player award – a testament of his great attacking capabilities.
He was only substituted twice in the tournament in the final minutes in draws against Burkina Faso and Gabon.
