Confederation of African Football (CAF) boss Ahmad Ahmad has praised the cooperation of Egyptian President Abdel-Fattah El-Sisi in finishing preparations for hosting the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations (2019 AFCON) in Egypt in five months.

Egypt was granted hosting rights of the 2019 African Cup of Nations (2019 AFCON) after winning a majority of votes in a January meeting of the executive committee of the Confederation of African Football (CAN).

"We can't ignore Egypt's President Abdel-Fattah El-Sisi's cooperation in organising the competition in five months," Ahmad Ahmad told a press conference in Cairo Thursday.

"I think it's safe to say that all the signs lead to a successful experience and I think everyone saw the draw," he added.

This year's version of  AFCON, which has been expanded to 24 teams, will take place in six stadiums across Egypt from 21 June to 19 July.

"There were a lot of challenges concerning this tournament, but we tried to overcome them and organise a competition with 24 national teams, which will start tomorrow," he said.

"A lot of referees are participating in the tournament and the executive committee decided to implement VAR technology starting from the quarterfinals to avoid any complications before this period," Ahmad said.
