FIFA chief Gianni Infantino congratulated Egypt for its incredible organizing for the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations during his attendance at the Confederation of African Football (CAF) Congress’s headquarters in Cairo on Thursday.

“I congratulate Egypt for this great organizing of the Africa Cup of Nations, and for an incredible tournament,” Infantino said during the CAF congress.

FIFA’s chairman emphasized that Egypt amazed the world with its magnificent infrastructure and perfect stadiums.

However, Infantino also commented on the current scandal happening within the CAF, after accusing the African Football Association's chief, Malagasy Ahmad Ahmad, with corruption charges.

"CAF's situation was like FIFA's situation three years ago, but we managed to get back on the right track, and I trust that CAF will be able to overcome these difficult times," Infantino said.

"FIFA is ready to support CAF in overcoming these obstacles, especially since the African continent is very close to my heart," he added.

Former FIFA president Sepp Blatter, attacked FIFA's decision to assign FIFA's Secretary-General Fatma Samoura, as FIFA’s General Delegate to Africa, describing it as "colonialism".

"FIFA interfered directly in CAF by sending Samoura to supervise, which is a severe violation of FIFA's regulations. The continental associations are not members of FIFA, but the national associations only," Blatter told BBC.

From his side, Infantino replied that appointing Samoura to CAF starting in August is just a cooperation between the international union and the African association, as they decided to delegate the higher administrative official in FIFA  to raise the efficiency of work in the African Football Association.

"Delegating Samoura was a democratic decision, and it came from the executive office which agreed with the vote. I refuse all those accusations saying that FIFA is taking over CAF," FIFA's chief revealed.

"You can judge by the results of Samoura's work, not by the speculations or precedent expectations," he added.
