Over 150 Morsi supporters arrested in 'day of rage' protests

More than 150 supporters of ousted Islamist President Mohamed Morsi were arrested on Thursday during protests to mark the anniversary of his removal last year, a security source told Al-Ahram's Arabic news website.

The official said 157 people were arrested in the capital and eight other cities and that police confiscated fireworks and gasoline bombs.

Authorities said they arrested another 39 people wanted on previous charges.

The protests, called by a Muslim Brotherhood-led coalition as a "day of rage", were dispersed by police who fired tear gas in several cities.

At least one pro-Morsi demonstrator was killed a number of others injured in clashes with security forces Giza's Al-Haram district.

A series of homemade bombs went off throughout the day, with two killed in the village of Keradasa, on the outskirts of Cairo.
