The Egyptian Social Democratic Party is currently preparing a list of party members who will run for the parliamentary elections, a party spokesman told Al-Ahram’s Arabic news website.

Spokesman Mohamed Qassem said the party – which has, so far, settled on 120 out of a desired 281 members -- is eyeing 80 percent of the parliament's individual seats

Qassem said some prominent members running on the party's ticket in the upcoming parliamentary elections include Ziad Bahaa El-Din, current head of the party's economic portfolio and former deputy to ex-PM Hazem El-Beblawi, as well as constitutional expert Nour Farahat.

The Egyptian Social Democratic Party will further push for public figures, women, Christians and youths to run for the parliament under the party's wing.
Egypt's parliamentary polls are scheduled to take place later this year, as President Abdel-Fattah El-Sisi has issued a decree that sets the preparations of the elections in motion.

Out of 567 seats in the upcoming parliament, 420 will be elected via the individual candidacy system, while 120 seats will be reserved for party lists.

Qassem added that the candidates that will be pushed to run for the party lists are yet to be determined, as electoral coalition talks are still ongoing.
