Police corporal injured in a North Sinai shooting

A police corporal survived an attempt on his life in Egypt's North Sinai governorate

A police corporal was injured early Friday morning in a shooting by a group of unknown assailants in front of his unit in North Sinai governorate, reported Reuters Aswat Masriya.

An informed source in the interior ministry told Aswat Masriya news website that 30 year-old police corporal, Saber Mohamed Ibrahim survived an assassination attempt by militant groups earlier Friday.

"The unknown militant assailants were riding a motorcycle when they opened fire, injuring him in his left arm,” the source added that Saber was able to return fire, injuring one of the assailants.

The corporal was transferred to a military hospital in Al-Arish to receive treatment. 

Egypt’s security forces has been facing a decade-long jihadist militant insurgency in the Sinai Peninsula, with militant attacks increasing over the past year and expanding into Cairo and the Nile Delta, killing hundreds of army and police personnel. The military has also announced the death and arrest of hundreds of militants.Civilians have also been caught up in the violence.
