Egypt's higher administrative court issued a final ruling rejecting the return of interior ministry – affiliated guards to universities, reported MENA.

The ruling's statement rejects the presence of on-campus administrations affiliated with the Interior ministry, but does not contradict the police's role to preserve order and prevent crimes "anywhere in the country."

A decision by the court of injunction in May 2014 confirmed a ruling to have security forces back on university campuses – in contradiction to a ruling by the State Council in 2010 to ban the interior ministry's security guards from entering campuses.

Security on university campuses was infamous during the three-decade rule of ousted president Hosni Mubarak. Surveillance and restrictions stirred student anger against the government.

Interior minister Mohamed Ibrahim announced that it will have while guards will have no presence inside universities forces will be deployed outside their gates and that they will only enter campuses upon request from the university board.

The ongoing semester has witnessed the police storm a number of universities throughout the country to disperse anti-government protests arranged by the students. Manyof the protests were dispersed with tear gas after clashes between the students and university security.
