Unidentified assailants targeted on Monday the home of a judge who acquitted Mubarak-era interior minister Habib El-Adly of corruption charges with a small bomb.

Nobody was injured but some slight damage was caused to the home of Judge Fathy Bayoumi, a judicial source said.

The device was placed in front of Bayoumi’s home in Ousim, Giza governorate, and the words "a gift for El-Adly’s acquittal" had been scribed on the wall.

The bomb damaged the façade of the building, windows and water pipes, a prosecutor said after conducting a preliminary investigation.

It was not clear whether the judge was inside his home during the explosion.

Bayoumi served on a panel of three judges that acquitted El-Adly of corruption charges on Thursday, the last outstanding case against the former official, paving the way for his release.

El-Adly was cleared of charges he had used his political influence to acquire illicit gains amounting to LE181 million ($23.72 million).

El-Adly, who was removed from his post during the 2011 revolution, had faced a variety of charges ranging from corruption to complicity in killing protesters.
