Egyptian Foreign Minister Sameh Shoukry and US Secretary of State John Kerry on Monday discussed by phone the two countries’ upcoming strategic dialogue talks.

In a statement, Shoukry said the strategic dialogue, scheduled for 28-29 July, will tackle political, economic, security issues, and the importance of developing the US-Egypt relationship.  

On Monday, the US delivered two fast missile naval vessels to the Egyptian navy, in a move to boost the bilateral strategic partnership. According to the US embassy in Cairo, the missiles are worth of $1.1 billion.

The statement added that the two ministers discussed a number of  regional issues concerning  terrorism and their cooperation on how to promote peace and stability.

Other issues raised were the development of Palestine-Israel peace talks, in addition to the situation in Libya and Iraq.

The statement stated that their conversation also included the Syrian crisis, and the Yemen crisis in light of the recent Geneva talks.

Egypt and the US resumed their strategic dialogue after tensions occurred following the ouster of president Mohamed Morsi in 2013.  

In April, the White House stated that it was restoring military aid to Egypt as a way to help it combat terrorism in the region.
